Self-Portrait Dedicated to Paul Gauguinm

I saw this painting, by Vincent Van Gogh, in the film we watched in Art Class. In early 1888, Van Gogh moved to arles in the South of France, where he hoped to establish an art colony. We watched his brother, Leo, unsuccessfully try to sell this piece. I think this painting is interesting because he looks very deep in thought, and I think the bright background corresponds with his many thoughts. I also like the shading on his beard and the detail to his haircut.
