The Creation of Adam

"The Creation of Adam" by Michelangelo is painted in the Sistine's Chapel's ceiling in 1512. It is a fresco painting, which is a type of mural painting on wet lime plaster. This technique is closely associated with the renaissance era. There are two main objects that draw attention to one's eye. First I noticed God who is in a white tunic instead of rich garments, and older yet muscular. Then I noticed Adam who is nude and accepting God's touch. This picture symbolizes the beginning of man kind when God created Adam. After looking at the picture longer, I realized there is a women behind God, most likely Eve, and many children. They symbolize the generations of human beings after Adam was created. The lack of clothing represents the exposed nature in the way that God sees them, which is deeper than superficial accessories like clothing. This painting along with Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper" are the most recreated religious paintings.
